Nieces Maura and Mary Hennessy visited NY to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty. Winnie was a grand hostess taking us to all the wonderful NY landmarks. We had so many memorable moments... Winnie arranged for us to watch the Tall Ships from a posh setting in an office with a view overlooking the river. We walked across the Brooklyn Bridge to the promenade to view the most unbelievable fireworks! I believe there were six barges surrounding Manhattan launching fireworks in unison to live music being piped around the city from the likes of Neil Diamond and Huey Lewis. We picnicked in Central Park one evening with a half-million other compatriots - we lay on the grass and listened to american classics played by the New York Philharmonic, Yo-Yo Ma and Plácido Domingo with a backdrop of fireworks -- GOOSEBUMPS GALORE! My favorite memory, though, was getting up with Wink and my sis for a midnight snack of mint chip ice cream pie from Friendly's. Yum!
